How much do dental implants cost in London?
A dental implant is one of the bigger investments you can make in your teeth, so it’s worth knowing what you’re paying for. Prices across London vary a lot, partly because clinics quote very different things. Here’s how it works at our practice, and what to check wherever you go.
The short answer
At our practice in Bow, East London, a single implant with a crown starts at £3,080. The implant consultation, with our oral surgery specialist Lena Vakil, is £132 and is redeemable against your treatment if you go ahead. Full-arch options such as All-on-4 and All-on-6 are quoted after a consultation, because they depend so much on the individual. Every fee is in our fee guide.
What’s in an implant price?
A single tooth replaced with an implant has three parts:
- The implant, a titanium post placed in the jawbone in place of the missing root
- The abutment, the connector that sits on top of the implant
- The crown, the visible tooth, made by a dental technician to match your other teeth
When you compare quotes, check that all three are included, along with the planning, the review appointments and the final fitting. Some low headline prices cover the implant alone.
What changes the price?
- How many teeth are being replaced. One implant, a bridge on two implants, or a full arch are very different treatments.
- Your bone. If the jawbone is thin or narrow, it may need building up first with a bone graft.
- Extractions. If a failing tooth needs to come out first, that’s part of the plan.
- The type of restoration. A single crown, a bridge, or a full set of fixed or clip-in teeth.
- Sedation. Available on request if you’re anxious about treatment.
Your dentist gives you a written plan with every cost before anything starts.
Who will place your implant?
Implant surgery is a skilled procedure, so it’s worth asking who does it. At our practice, our team includes Lena Vakil, who is on the GDC Specialist Register in Oral Surgery. For more complex cases, including full-arch reconstructions, we’re joined by visiting implant dentist Hrisith Choksi, who holds a Diploma in Implant Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons. You can check any dentist’s registration on the GDC website.
Spreading the cost
You don’t have to pay for implants all at once. Finance through Tabeo is available on treatment over £1,000, with terms from 12 to 60 months, and interest-free options on shorter terms.
Representative example: borrowing £3,080 over 60 months at 12.9% APR representative (fixed) means 60 monthly payments of £68.12, a total cost of credit of £1,007.21 and a total amount payable of £4,087.21. Finance is subject to status; we act as a credit broker, not a lender.
Is it cheaper abroad?
The headline price often is. But implants need regular check-ups and maintenance for years afterwards, and if a problem comes up, it usually has to be fixed close to home. Standards for materials and regulation also vary between countries. Before booking abroad, ask who will look after your implant in five years’ time.
Can I get implants on the NHS?
Only in limited cases, such as when someone can’t wear a denture because of an injury or surgery for a tumour. Otherwise, implants are private treatment everywhere in the UK.
What are the alternatives?
A bridge or a denture can also replace missing teeth, and both usually cost less at the start. Our guide to dental implants vs dentures compares them, and our dental implants page explains the options for one tooth, several teeth or a full arch.
