New Patient Information - William Place Dental Aesthetics
- Bow, East London
Welcome to William Place Dental Aesthetics
Welcome to William Place Dental Aesthetics, your trusted dentist in Bow, East London. We proudly welcome new patients seeking high-quality, affordable private dentistry and limited NHS dental care. Our friendly team provides gentle, personalised dental treatment for all ages — helping you achieve a healthy, confident smile in a calm and caring environment.
Registering with Our Dental Practice
When you join William Place Dental Aesthetics, your registration is with the practice, not with an individual dentist or the NHS.
This means you become part of our patient community, and we’ll look after your care according to the type of dental service you receive.
We provide two types of dental care within the same practice:
• NHS care – subject to contract limitations – focused on essential treatments that are clinically necessary to keep your mouth healthy and pain-free.
• Private care – offering a broader choice of treatments, advanced technology, and greater flexibility.
You’ll benefit from premium materials and modern equipment — for example, digital intraoral scanning instead of traditional dental impressions. Private care also includes access to cosmetic and advanced treatments such as teeth whitening, composite bonding, clear aligners, veneers, and dental implants.
There’s No Such Thing as an “NHS Patient”
NHS dental care in England operates very differently from NHS GP services.
There is no permanent registration for NHS care with a particular dental practice. Instead, treatment is provided on a course-of-treatment basis (known as an episode of care).
You are accepted for a specific course of NHS treatment and discharged once that treatment is complete. This approach is designed to allow as many people as possible to access NHS dental care when capacity and funding permit.
Because of this, there is actually no such thing as an “NHS patient,” “NHS list,” or being “registered on the NHS” in the context of the current NHS dental contract. Patients are free to visit any dentist with availability, and — unlike NHS GPs — dental care is not restricted by geographical location.
Unfortunately, the NHS dental system is under immense pressure nationwide. Current funding is estimated to meet the needs of only around 40–50% of England’s population, meaning demand far exceeds the resources available. This shortage impacts both patients seeking appointments and dental teams striving to provide care within the limits of the NHS contract.
NHS Dental Care at William Place Dental Aesthetics
At William Place Dental Aesthetics, our ability to provide NHS care is determined by the terms of our NHS contract:
Strict annual funding currently supports only 3 out of our 9 surgeries, leaving the remaining surgeries for private treatment.
These limits mean we can only offer a fixed number of NHS appointments each year, regardless of how many patients wish to be seen. We have repeatedly raised these issues with NHS England and our local MP, advocating for increased funding and improved access for our community — but so far, our requests have not been successful.
We are currently unable to offer any additional NHS appointments. This applies to everyone except existing patients who are already undergoing treatment or those with appointments already scheduled. Please note that we do not operate a waiting list for NHS appointments.
Occasionally Available NHS Appointments
From time to time, we may release a very limited number of NHS appointments for new patients.
Due to extremely high demand, these are available only via our online booking portal and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please note:
-
NHS slots book up quickly and may not reappear for several months.
-
NHS appointments cannot be booked by phone or email.

NHS vs Private Dentistry – What’s the Difference?
NHS Dentistry
NHS care focuses on functional and clinically necessary treatment, such as:
-
Check-ups
-
Mostly Silver Fillings
-
Extractions
-
Standard crowns
It does not include cosmetic or elective procedures such as:
-
Teeth whitening
-
White fillings & crowns
-
Veneers
-
Composite bonding
-
Teeth straightening
-
Dental implants
NHS dentistry does not include routine hygienist appointments. Where gum disease is diagnosed, your dentist can carry out the required periodontal treatment — it does not cover cosmetic cleaning or stain removal.
Private Dentistry
Private dental care offers:
-
Greater appointment availability and flexibility
-
Longer consultations and more time with your dentist
-
Hygienist visits for preventive care and stain removal
-
A wider choice of advanced materials (e.g. ceramic restorations)
-
Access to the latest dental technology, including digital scanning and AI diagnostics
-
A full range of cosmetic and advanced treatments, including Invisalign™, 32Co™, bonding, and implants
