Care under one roof
Registering with our practice
When you join William Place Dental Aesthetics, your registration is with the practice, not with an individual dentist or with the NHS. We provide two types of care under one roof:
NHS care — subject to contract limitations. Focused on essential treatments that are clinically necessary to keep your mouth healthy and pain-free.
Private care — a broader choice of treatments, advanced technology and greater flexibility. Premium materials and modern equipment, such as digital intraoral scanning instead of traditional impressions, plus cosmetic and advanced treatments including whitening, composite bonding, clear aligners, veneers and implants.
There's no such thing as an "NHS patient"
NHS dental care in England operates very differently from NHS GP services. There is no permanent registration for NHS care with a particular practice. Treatment is provided on a course-of-treatment basis — you are accepted for a specific course and discharged once it's complete.
Because of this, there is actually no such thing as an "NHS patient", an "NHS list", or being "registered on the NHS" under the current NHS dental contract.
Patients are free to visit any dentist with availability and, unlike NHS GPs, dental care is not restricted by where you live. Nationally, NHS dental funding is estimated to meet the needs of only around 40–50% of England's population.
NHS care at William Place
Nine surgeries. Three are NHS-funded. That cap is set by NHS England, not by us — and it's why NHS appointments here are limited. We've asked for more, repeatedly, without success.
These limits mean we can only offer a fixed number of NHS appointments each year, regardless of how many patients wish to be seen. We are currently unable to offer additional NHS appointments, except to existing patients already undergoing treatment or with appointments already scheduled. We do not operate a waiting list.
Occasionally available NHS appointments
From time to time we release a very limited number of NHS appointments for new patients. Due to extremely high demand these are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

- They book up quickly and may not reappear for several months.
- NHS appointments cannot be booked by phone or email.

Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment

Hygienist: Deep Clean & Polish

Ideal for new patients, or anyone who hasn't had a professional clean recently. Removes plaque, tartar and surface stains.
Book onlineWe often recommend booking a Deep Clean & Polish alongside your assessment, especially if it's been a while. Depending on your gum health you may then join our hygienist maintenance programme — £75, or £65 off-peak. See the full fee guide.
NHS vs private dentistry
What's the difference?
NHS dentistry
Treats disease and restores function:

NHS dentistry does not include routine hygienist appointments. Where gum disease is diagnosed your dentist can carry out the required periodontal treatment, but it doesn't cover cosmetic cleaning or stain removal.
