Lena Vakil, Founder & Director at William Place Dental Aesthetics

Lena Vakil

Founder & Director

FDS RCS, BDS Wales 1991 · GDC 66110

Minor Oral Surgery Specialist & Implant Expert Wednesday

Lena qualified from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 1991. She began her career in hospital-based oral and maxillofacial training and gained her Fellowship in Dental Surgery in 1993, joining the GDC Specialist Register in Oral Surgery in 2004. Over the years she has worked across many hospital settings, carrying out the full range of oral surgery procedures, and she has also run an oral surgery unit in Sydney, Australia. She has lectured at St Bartholomew's, the Royal London Hospital and Whipps Cross University Hospital, where she supervised postgraduates, and she completed her Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Education in 2017. In 1996 Lena established an oral surgery referral service in Docklands with Tower Hamlets PCT, with a referral base of around 30 practices. A member of the British Association of Oral Surgeons, she is currently completing a Diploma in Implant Dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons (England).

Seema Sharma, Founder & Director at William Place Dental Aesthetics

Seema Sharma

Founder & Director

BDS (Lond) 1989, MBA Imperial · GDC 64971

Founder of the Child Action charity

Seema is one of the founders of William Place. Together with Lena Vakil, she established the practice in 2008 after winning a highly competitive NHS tender for Bow, and it was soon photographed for the NHS's own library of practice images and featured by the Department of Health as a model of best practice. The prevention-first, whole-person ethos you'll find here has been hers from day one. Seema qualified from Guy's Hospital in 1989 and spent twenty years treating patients, first in general practice and later with a special interest in orthodontics, building the award-winning Docklands Dental Centre along the way. She remains registered with the GDC, though these days she has stepped back from the chair — her work now is leading the practice and developing the team. Few people know more about how good dental care is organised: she holds an MBA from Imperial College, has taught and advised at King's College London and the Care Quality Commission, and is a Fellow of the College of General Dentistry. Away from the practice she champions women in dentistry and founded Child Action, a charity supporting underprivileged children in India.

Monday to Friday

With over 13 years of experience, Bhumika is a general dentist known for her calm, thoughtful approach and commitment to exceptional, personalised care.

For Bhumika, good dentistry starts with understanding the person behind the smile. She listens closely to what her patients want to achieve, takes time to understand their concerns, and explains treatment options clearly so they can make informed decisions with confidence. Wherever possible, she favours a considered, minimally invasive approach — preserving as much natural tooth as possible while delivering excellent, long-lasting results.

Patients particularly value her gentle manner, attention to detail, and the unhurried care she brings to every appointment. She's passionate about building genuine, long-term relationships and providing continuity of care — whether for routine dentistry or more complex restorative treatment — in a relaxed environment where patients feel listened to, never judged, and never pressured.

Bhumika graduated with honours from the Royal London Dental Hospital in 2013 and completed her vocational training in London. She went on to achieve her Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2015, and has continued her professional development ever since, including advanced restorative training with the Aspire Dental Academy — equipping her to provide sophisticated restorative and minimally invasive dentistry grounded in current evidence and careful planning.

She enjoys all aspects of general dentistry, with a particular interest in restorative and minimally invasive treatment. Bhumika is also trained to provide Sleepwell, a mandibular advancement splint for snoring and mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnoea.
