NHS Dental Care
We have provided NHS dentistry in Bow for over 18 years. Here are the current charges, and an honest account of what we can and can't offer.
How NHS dental care actually works
NHS dental care in England works very differently from NHS GP services. There is no permanent registration with an NHS dentist. Care is provided on a course-by-course basis, so you can attend any NHS practice with capacity, regardless of where you live.
That means there is no such thing as being an “NHS patient”, being “on an NHS list”, or being “registered on the NHS” under the current NHS dental contract.
Nationally, NHS dental funding is estimated to meet the needs of only around 40–50% of England’s population, so demand far exceeds what practices can provide.
What we can offer
We have provided NHS dentistry in Bow for over 18 years and intend to keep doing so. But our allocation is capped, and we are currently unable to offer additional NHS appointments except to existing patients already undergoing treatment or with appointments already booked. We do not operate a waiting list.
From time to time we release a very limited number of NHS appointments for new patients. These are available only through our online booking portal, on a first-come, first-served basis. They go quickly, may not reappear for months, and cannot be booked by phone or email.
If we can’t see you on the NHS
You can check nhs.uk or call 111 to find other practices that may have NHS availability.

Nine surgeries. Three are NHS-funded. That cap is set by NHS England, not by us — and it's why NHS appointments here are limited. We've asked for more, repeatedly, without success.

NHS Care (from 1 April 2026)
Band 1
£27.90
Examination, diagnosis (including X-rays), advice on preventing future problems, and a scale and polish if clinically necessary.
Band 2
£76.60
Everything in Band 1, plus further treatment such as fillings, root canal work or extractions.
Band 3
£332.10
Everything in Bands 1 and 2, plus crowns, dentures or bridges.
NHS charges are set nationally, not by the practice. You pay one band charge per course of treatment, however many appointments it takes. Each band includes everything in the bands below it.
