An honest guide

How to choose the best dentist in East London

Search "best dentist in East London" and you'll find pages of practices all telling you they're wonderful. Here's a more useful approach - the checks that actually tell you whether a practice is any good, and how to run them in ten minutes.

Nobody can honestly tell you who the “best” dentist in East London is - not us, not anyone. What makes a dentist right for you depends on what you need: a family practice, cosmetic expertise, somewhere gentle with nervous patients, or simply somewhere that answers the phone. What we can give you is the checklist we’d use ourselves. Every item takes a minute or two to check, and none of it relies on taking anyone’s marketing at face value - including ours.

1. Check the register, not the website

Every dentist, hygienist and dental nurse practising legally in the UK is listed on the General Dental Council register. A trustworthy practice makes this easy by publishing its clinicians’ GDC numbers. Look for named people with numbers you can check - not just stock photos and job titles.

How we measure up: every clinician on our team page is listed with their name and GDC number. Check any of them.

2. Read the CQC report

The Care Quality Commission inspects every dental practice in England and publishes what it finds at cqc.org.uk. It’s the closest thing dentistry has to an independent referee - covering safety, cleanliness, management and how the practice responds when things go wrong.

How we measure up: we’re CQC-registered and inspected, like every legitimate practice - our registration details are in the footer of every page.

3. Read the reviews properly

A star rating on its own tells you little. Three things tell you a lot:

  • Volume and recency. A 5.0 from 12 reviews means less than a 4.6 from several hundred. Look for reviews from the last few weeks, not just a glory pile from years ago.
  • What people actually describe. Reviews that name clinicians and describe specific visits are worth ten generic ones.
  • How the practice replies. Replies to reviews - including difficult ones - show you how a practice treats patients when nobody’s watching.

How we measure up: we’re rated 4.6 from over 900 Google reviews, and we reply to them. Read them for yourself - don’t take our word for anything.

4. Ask who owns the practice

Much of UK dentistry is now owned by corporate chains, where clinical decisions can sit alongside group targets. Independent practices answer to their patients and their own standards. Neither model guarantees good or bad care - but it’s worth knowing who you’re actually dealing with, and how long they’ve been there. A practice that has served the same street for decades is making a different promise than one that opened last year.

How we measure up: independent since 2008, owned and run by the clinicians who treat you, on the same street in Bow the whole time.

5. Look for published prices

Good practices tell you what things cost before you’re in the chair. Be cautious of anywhere that won’t publish at least its examination and common treatment fees - and equally of prices that seem too good to be true, which usually have their own explanation.

How we measure up: our fees are published, from a £35 off-peak check-up upwards, with 0% finance options for larger treatments. Prices are a guide and confirmed in a written quote after your consultation.

6. If you want NHS care, ask the right question

Many East London practices provide NHS care, but capacity is genuinely limited everywhere - so the useful question isn’t “do you do NHS?” but “what NHS availability do you actually have, and how does your waiting work?”. A straight answer to that question is itself a good sign of the practice you’re dealing with.

How we measure up: we hold an NHS contract and have kept it despite the pressure on the system. We’re honest about capacity - here’s exactly how our NHS availability works, in plain English.

7. Visit before you commit

The best check of all costs nothing: walk in, or phone. How you’re spoken to at reception is how you’ll be treated as a patient. Ask a question and notice whether the answer is straight. Somewhere that’s good will be pleased you’re checking.

How we measure up: we’re at 12 William Place, Bow, E3 5ED - a couple of minutes from Roman Road. Call 020 8821 2830 and judge us on the conversation.

The honest conclusion

The “best dentist in East London” isn’t a title anyone can legitimately claim - it’s whoever scores well on the checks above and feels right for you. We’ve shown you how we measure up against each one, with links so you can verify rather than trust. Run the same checks on anyone else you’re considering; a good practice will stand up to them, and a great one will welcome them.

If we come out of that looking like your kind of practice, a £35 off-peak comprehensive assessment is a low-stakes way to find out in person - or just book online and come and meet us.
